Porsche, Lamborghini, Mclaren, Acura, Ferrari. What do these car makers have in common? The fight for the best hybrid. And no, not just any hybrid. Hybrid supercars. Why?! Why are all of these manufacturers making hybrids? It's not like fuel economy actually matters when driving the car of your dreams! Surprised Toyota's not getting into the fight with some sort of 'super Prius' or what not. Oh wait! Rumors say that the new Supra is going to be a.... Hybrid! At least they've got great experience. So really, what were these car makers thinking of? They've never really made a hybrid before. The only real hybrid on the road today is the Prius. Well, this is what we think about the hybrid supercar.
Well then. Here we go. The answer we think is marketing. We've been through the same concept for years; fast cars being faster that the last model, nothing really changing that much, and it seems like these car makers wanted to surprise us with something new and different. And you know what? They've more or less succeeded with the 'super hybrid.' It started out with Lamborghini making only three Verano's. Then Ferrari went off on them with the LaFerrari. Porsche started after with designs of the 918, and then Mclaren started to make the P1. Now, Acura is creating a hybrid NSX. But is all that really necessary? Are we, the car fanatics of the world, ready for such a change in the supercar world? Probably not, although those brave manufacturers listed above are taking the risk of going into the unknown for us. And that's something that really made us proud.
